KNIGHTDALE - Knightdale Public Works Director Tracy Pedigo resigned last week.

The move by Pedigo, 53, was an abrupt end to a career serving Knightdale which included a stint as Town Councilman in the early 1990s.

His resignation on Jan. 30 “was not planned,” Pedigo said.

“There were others issues, aside from my decision, that contributed to it,” Pedigo said.

He refused to provide further details but said, “there are no ethical or legal issues driving this resignation.”

Pedigo submitted a resignation letter, but town officials declined to make it public and town officials declined to comment.

Pedigo worked as a general contractor and electrical contractor from 1985 until being hired by Knightdale in October 2007.

Duties of the Knightdale Public Works Director include:

•  Enforcing safety regulations and policies among all Town Personnel.

•  Planning, organizing and directing contract administration, building and grounds, athletic field and park maintenance, vehicle and general maintenance, trash collection, street maintenance, and storm water management

•  Preparing the annual operating and capital budgets for the Public Works Department.

Pedigo chairs the North Carolina Facilities & Grounds Committee for the American Public Works Association.

As Knightdale’s Public Works Director, Pedigo oversaw the work of four other town employees.

He earned a 1.5 percent pay raise in 2011, boosting his annual salary to $79,346, town records show.

Town engineer Fred Boone is acting as Public Works Director until the town decides how to fill the position, Town Manager Seth Lawless said.
