SMITHFIELD - Both the East Wake and Knightdale swim teams claimed second-place combined team finishes in a pair of four-team meets at the Smithfield Aquatics Center Tuesday.
In the second meet of the day, the Warrior girls were nine points shy of meet winner Clayton, trailing 135-126 at the conclusion of the 24 events. East Wake’s boys were 35 points shy of meet-winning Clayton, trailing 158-123.
Clayton won overall with 293 combined points, followed by East Wake with 249, West Johnston with 220 and Smithfield-Selma with 25.
Lady Warrior Savannah Phillips had a big day, winning two individual events and contributing to two relay wins for East Wake.
She took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:34.77) and 100-yard backstroke (1:11.09). She also helped claim a first-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (2:14.38) alongside teammates Rachel Crowder, Miranda Phillips and Alicia Neal, and another top finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay alongside Crowder, Miranda Phillips and Anna Riddle.
Lady Warriors Emma Cannon, Olivia Garcia, Miranda Phillips and Neal took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:08.18), while Miranda Phillips took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.10).
Third-place finishes came from Neal in the 50-yard freestyle (29.88), Riddle in the 100-yard backstroke (1:21.79) and Jessica Hagen in the 100-yard freestyle (1:15.43).
On the boys end, East Wake’s Alston Willard won the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.04) and Macon Crowder won the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.56).
Willard and Crowder also contributed to second-place relay finishes in the 200 medley (1:54.59) and 400 freestyle (3:48.54) alongside fellow Warriors Austin Boyette and Daniel Duttman.
Second-place finishes were claimed by Crowder in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.78), Duttman in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.62) and Gavin Leach in the 50-yard freestyle (26.24).
Third-place finishes came from Duttman in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.34), Boyette in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.50) and 10-yard backstroke (1:09.12) and Willard in the 500-yard freestyle (6:21.27).
Garner dominated the first meet of the day. The Trojans posted 315.5 combined points and followed by Knightdale with 199.5, Harnett Central with 170 and Southeast Raleigh with 12.
The Knightdale girls came closest to either Trojan team, posting 118.5 points behind the Garner girls’ 155.5.
Kristin Olson led the Lady Knights with individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.92) and 500-yard freestyle (6:16.24). Tatiana Blount and Tyler Cornett added individual wins in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.45) and 100-yard backstroke (1:23.35), respectively.
Second-place Lady Knight finishes were claimed by Morgan Dameron in the 200-yard individual medley (2:35.20) and 500-yard freestyle (6:55.36), and by Blount in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.11). The relay team of Dameron, Olson, Megan Woodlief and Blount also took second in the 400-yard freestyle at a time of 4:25.19.
Third-place finishes came from Alexis Cope in the 200-yard individual medley (3:13.42) and Cornett in the 100-yard butterfly (1:23.52). The relay team of Cornett, Olson, Woodlief and Dameron took third in the 200-yard medley (2:17.65). Jordyn Izzo, Dameron, Cope and Sean Cornett combined to take third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:17.55), and Dameron, Olson, Woodlief and Blount combined to take third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:25.19).
Knightdale’s boys (81 team points) finished third behind Garner (160) and Harnett Central (92).
Patrick Capps led the Knights with first place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.86) and 100-yard butterfly (1:02.63), while Logan Anderson supplied the lone second-place finish for the Knightdale boys in the 200-yard individual medley (2:50.56).
Third-place individual finishes came from Dylan Bobbitt in the 200-yard freestyle (2:34.36) and 500-yard freestyle (7:07.18), and Robert McCue in the 50-yard freestyle (27.64), 100-yard freestyle (1:03.01) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.27).
Brandon Bobbitt, Dylan Bobbitt, Anderson and Capps also combined for third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:52.54) and 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.71).
