ZEBULON - Playing in their second conference game of the week, the East Wake Academy boys fell to St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors on Dec. 16
The Eagles were hoping to even out their record in conference play but the Chancellors were not prepared to let that happen, winning the game 54-50.
The game was an even event for much of the first half, yet it was the weak transition defense deployed by the Eagles that allowed St. Thomas More to hold a 3-point halftime lead.
“Getting back on defense was our issue tonight, especially in the first half. If we had gotten back to stop their attacks the result may have been different.” Eagle head coach Miguel Bonano said.
Coming out of the break, the Eagles played well but could not manage to stop the momentum of the Chancellors. St. Thomas outscored the Eagles 17-13 in the third quarter and held on despite the Eagles edging the home team by 3 points in the fourth.
The first career double-double by senior Malachi Roquemore consisting of 10 points and 10 rebounds was not enough to give the Eagles their third conference win. Senior Damarr McCarthy finished with 13 points and seven rebounds while his brother Terrance McCarthy had 14 points.
The loss left the Eagles with a 4-10 record on the season. The Eagles are 2-4 in conference play.
