ZEBULON - The Heritage Christian Academy boys and girls basketball teams entered the Christmas break with perfect records.
The boys have won all three regular-season games played to this point, while the girls opened the season 2-0.
The Patriot boys’ first game was on the road at Ahoskie Christian School where the Heritage won by a final score of 53-37. The boys led throughout the game, taking a 33-16 lead by halftime.
Heritage Christian was led by Mitchell Williams (17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists), Joseph Lambert (16 points and 18 rebounds) and Colby Stepp (six points and nine rebounds) in the victory.
The Patriot boys’ second game was at home against New Life Christian Academy from Clinton.
Similar to the first game, the Patriots held a significant halftime lead of 30-13, and went on to win the game by a final score of 61-40.
The Patriots were led by Lambert (17 points and 15 rebounds), David Dupree (17 points and 10 rebounds), Stepp (15 points and nine rebounds) and Williams (9 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists).
The Heritage boys experienced their first true test of the regular season in game three when they faced Mount Calvary Christian School at home and emerged victorious 57-55.
The Patriots were led by Lambert (27 points and 14 rebounds), Stepp (12 points and 10 rebounds) and Williams (11 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals).
The Lady Patriots also defeated Ahoskie Christian in their season opener by a final score of 58-39.
The game was close at the half with HCA holding a 24-21 lead, but the Lady Pats outscored Ahoskie by 16 points in the second half.
The HCA girls were led by Kelly O’Brien (24 points), Tarah Poelman (13 points, five rebounds and five assists), Brandi Bredell (7 points, 12 rebounds) and Brianna Crump (18 rebounds).
In the girls’ second game of the season against Mount Calvary Christian School HCA found itself in a similar situation they faced against Ahoskie.
The Lady Patriots had a sluggish first half, but exploded in the second half for a convincing win. The lead was only 17-14 at the halftime break, but a significant burst in the second half led to a final score of 44-19.
The Lady Patriots were led by O’Brien (19 points), Kristin Sherron (13 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists), Poelman (6 points) and Bredell (4 points and 11 rebounds).
