ZEBULON - In their final game of last week, the Eagle girls of East Wake Academy faced Neuse Charter of Selma and won 49-27.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead and never let it go.
“We wanted to focus on execution today and building confidence in our younger players,” coach Maurice Lock said. “The veteran seniors and juniors were restricted in the time they played – about 2-3 minutes a quarter.”
The Eagles were led by junior center Ashleigh Pickett, who amassed 17 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Kirsty Siller added 15 points and three steals. Both players experienced a limited 12 minutes of game time.
Sophomore Jules Moore led all reserves in scoring with 5 points and 7 rebounds, followed by sophomore Liz Garrett with 4 points and 10 rebounds.
“Today was about our reserve play,” Lock said. “We have to be able to trust our abilities as a complete team and today they learned to pick up intensity and play basketball. It’s a process and we are moving in the right direction.”
