GREENSBORO - Former Knightdale High School football players John Scott and Rod Walker Jr. recently completed the 2011 football season at Guilford College.
Scott, a 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker, recorded 36 tackles in seven games, which ranked seventh on the team and 31st in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
He started four games and recorded one assisted sack and a fumble recovery. Scott made a season-high eight tackles Nov. 12 against Emory & Henry College.
Walker, a 6-1, 175-pound wide receiver, recorded 14 catches for 88 yards, which ranks third on the team. He played in nine games and started one.
His best game came at Methodist on Sept. 10 when he had four catches for 32 yards.
First-year head coach Chris Rusiewicz's Quakers posted a 2-8 overall record (1-5 ODAC), which marked a two-win improvement over the 2010 season.
Guilford regularly started at least 20 students in their first or second college football season and expects as many as 51 letter winners back in 2012, including 19 starters.
Scott was one of 500 high school juniors in the nation invited to attend the U.S. Army National Combine in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, in January of 2010.
Walker led Knightdale in receiving his senior season, averaging 15.7 yards per catch in 2010.
He was also part of the 2011 Knightdale track team that won the Wake County Championship meet and Greater Neuse River 4A conference title.
