After an 0-2 start to the season the East Wake Academy boys basketball team is righting its ship.The Eagles squared their overall record to 3-3 and 2-1 in the Central Carolina Athletic League with a 64-16 blowout win over Hopewell Academy on the road Monday night.
In an effort that saw 10 Eagles score, East Wake Academy dispatched the hosts with an unselfish and often patient style of play. Sophomore Terrance McCarthy led the Eagles with a game-high 14 points and eight rebounds.
East Wake Academy jumped out to a commanding 24-2 lead in the first quarter and scored in double digits in all four quarters for the first time this year. Malachi Rocquemore added 9 points to McCarthy's effort, while Jimmy Polito and Damarr McCarthy chipped in 8 points each."Tonight was another team effort by the guys. We came here hoping to continue the momentum from our big win over Raleigh Charter and we did," said Eagles head coach Miguel Bonano. "It was a balanced game for us with lots of players aiding in defense and offense tonight, it was just great to see."
The Hopewell Academy Tigers fought hard. lead scorer Matt Berry had 8 points, but the Tigers could not find their rhythm due to a stingy Eagles defense.
