Mission: Warmth for Wake is a seasonal energy assistance outreach program co-sponsored by Wake County Human Services and the North Carolina Bankers Association.
The goal is to provide fuel to low-income residents of Wake County during the coldest winter months. The organization also helps people keep up with their energy bills. Here's a closer look at Warmth for Wake's services.
Wood Delivery: With help from volunteers, Warmth for Wake delivers free firewood to homes that can use it to offset gas or electric heat consumption. Volunteers are always needed. If you have a truck or trailer or can supply your own tools to help cut wood, please contact
denise.kissel@wakegov.com or 919-212-7083.
Wood Donations: You can also donate untreated wood by driving it to the city of Raleigh's yard waste center. Prior authorization is required. Please call 919-212-7083 to learn more.
Equipment Donations: The organization welcomes donations of chain saws, axes, mauls, hydraulic splitters and wheelbarrows.
Space Heater Donations: Warmth for Wake provides new and gently used space heaters to households lacking another heat source. Heaters are accepted year-round during regular business hours at Wake County Human Services, 220 Swinburne St., Raleigh.
"When the cold weather settles in, I expect that my phone will be ringing," said Denise Kissel of Wake County Human Services. "People don't feel comfortable turning the heat up. Every notch on that thermostat ticks up the bill."
