Downtown Wendell has a new old-fashioned candy store.

The Candy Corner opens Thursday on the corner of Third and Main Street.

Store patrons can find their holiday favorites, from chocolate-covered peanuts, orange slices, peanut brittle, rock candy, ribbon candy and more.

"With the Christmas-season lights scheduled to come to the downtown community in the year 2012 and the Christmas in Wendell event the chamber of commerce is doing, from selling Christmas trees to holiday wreaths and having holiday vendors on Saturday ... plus with all of the town merchants coming together to decorate their windows for the holiday season, it made sense to put an old-fashioned candy store in the downtown area," store owner Regina Harmon said.

Harmon says from that point on, they could not have gotten a better group of people together who were more than willing to take on each others ideas and turn them into something wonderful for their community.

Bruce Lynch, who owns the building where the old drug store used to be, offered the group his support and space for the store.

"You know something is meant to be when all the parties you are working with are all on the same page." Harmon said.

The Candy Corner is open from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 4-6 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays until Christmas.

Santa Claus comes to the Candy Corner on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m.-noon and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 8, 15 and 22.
