ZEBULON - The first conference game of the season for the East Wake Academy varsity girls basketball team turned out to be a blowout as the Lady Eagles soared over Pace Academy 76-21.
“We began the game strong,” Eagle coach Maurice Lock said. “The ladies controlled the paint with scoring on the offensive end and controlled the defensive boards, grabbing 29 rebounds.”
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead and never let off the gas, holding a 50-11 lead at the half of the Monday game.
The second half revealed much of the same as the team finished the game on a 26-10 run.
East Wake Academy was led by the 17 points, 10 assists, and five steals of senior point guard Maylynn Hall. Senior Gracie Barham tallied 15 points while junior Ashleigh Pickett and senior Kirsty Siller added 14 points each.
“I was really pleased with the way our underclassmen played for us in the second half,” Lock said. “Their confidence is getting stronger and they are truly beginning to believe in themselves, and that’s a good thing.”
