KNIGHTDALE - The schedule is set for the 2011 Triangle Tip Off Basketball Tournament, hosted by Knightdale High School.

The third annual event will run Friday to Saturday, Nov. 25-26, with games beginning 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. both days.

The tournament field consists of four boys' teams and four girls' teams. Boys' teams include Knightdale, Rocky Mount, East Chapel Hill and Wilson Fike high schools. Girls' teams include Knightdale, Rocky Mount, Wilson Fike and Millbrook High.

The Triangle Tip Off serves as the primary Knightdale basketball fundraiser while giving hoops fans an extra option over the Thanksgiving weekend.

"We have our own version of Black Friday at Knightdale High School. It gives some folks who don't want to go shopping the opportunity to come watch some basketball," Knightdale boys' head coach Battle Watkins said.

Watkins said proceeds from the fundraiser is split between the boys and girls teams to cover the cost of basic needs like basketballs, summer camps, practice jerseys and any miscellaneous expenses that come up during the year.

"It's a fundraiser, but also a way to measure yourself early in the season by playing some nonconference games in a tournament setting," Watkins said. "Some of these teams traditionally win their conference tournaments every year. We want to raise some money, see where we are in early in the season, and of course win our own tournament hopefully."

The Knightdale High School gymnasium doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Friday, and the first game of the tournament between the Knightdale and Fike girls will tip off at 1:30 p.m.

The East Chapel Hill boys will face Fike at 3 p.m., the Rocky Mount girls will take on Millbrook at 4:30 p.m. and the Knightdale boys will play Rocky Mount at 6 p.m.

The gym opens 12:30 p.m. again Saturday before the 1:30 girls runner-up game. The boys runner-up will be determined in a 3 p.m. game, followed by the girls' championship at 4:30 p.m. and boys' title game at 6 p.m.

Trophies will be awarded after each championship game.
