Ever since the beginning of the school year in my Small Business/Entrepreneurship class, I’ve thought about starting a small business.

It sounds simple, but there’s a lot that goes into beginning a business that you might not think of.

A person’s overall character, ability and how informed they are predicts the outcome of your success in the business world.

Their character will be challenged many times throughout the business ownership process and they must stick to your morals and business ethics.

Say, hypothetically, you are starting a business and you decide a partnership ownership structure is the best way to begin.

You would have to be able to work with a partner and share profits and incomes equally, along with the many struggles the business may face.

Having a written contract of all the duties you both must perform is a great start for a partnership and will most likely lead to the success of the business.

Along with this partnership comes the character of both individuals and their responses to different situations.

If one of your employees is in the position of dealing with a complaint from a customer, you or your partner need to have to ability to calm things down and insure the customer’s satisfaction.

You need to have an honest, personal connection with your customers that makes them feel welcome and willing to return, that way they feel you care about their business they bring into yours.

It’s obvious that to own anything, especially a small business, you need a little thing called money.

Your ability to acquire loans and grants for your business is necessary to support and sustain growth in your business.

The ability to commit to starting a business requires time and all efforts to help the business succeed. Long hours and close organization are important to your success also.

Determining where to locate your business and how to help your business grow is based on how informed you are about the surrounding market and the targeted people and their interests.

You wouldn’t try and sell snow boots in the Arizona. Your business wouldn’t succeed because no one would be interested in your product, and there would be no use for it.

These are just some of the basics of the business world, and the list of things not yet mentioned is lengthy and complicated.

So when thinking about starting a small business and the efforts put into it, keep these things in mind.
