What is the definition of a town? According to the dictionary a town is: A thickly populated area, usually smaller than a city and larger than a village, having fixed boundaries, or any urban area, as contrasted with its surrounding countryside. The last line of the definition is one of the things that define Knightdale.

The large countryside that showcases family farms is still owned today by descendants of the original settlers of Knightdale. What better way to honor those families than to make sure that Knightdale pays homage to its history? I did not grow up in Knightdale but my grandfather was the first Police Chief of Knightdale. Many still remember Gurthie Daniels or "Barney Fife" as they liked to call him. I remember spending time at my grandparent's home and how I enjoyed running around in the backyard and just feeling at peace. It was a quiet town, but now some 40 years later sometimes it is hard to recognize. After my grandparents passing we didn't visit Knightdale until years later when I met my future husband.

I feel with the growth that Knightdale has started to lose some of the things that made it so special. It needs to go back to its roots and bring the small town feeling back. Work needs to be done to bring emphasis back to the "original" town buildings area in which it all started. Twenty years ago my husband and I met a man who would forever change us and who has been a positive influence in both our lives and that of our children's. He is someone who has the same values we do and who has touched many families in Knightdale. He knows the meaning of family and hard work. He is active in the community and schools and works hard to make sure the children's needs are met so that they too can achieve anything. Jun Lee is what Knightdale needs to grow the community, yet keep it true to the definition of town.
