Gloria Faye Massey Debnam, wife of Edward Dwite Debnam of Staunton, Va., passed away Sunday, July 24th at home, two days before her 90th birthday.

Gloria Debnam was born July 26, 1921 in Wake County. She grew up in Zebulon, NC, the daughter of the late Oren Daniel Massey, Sr. and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Finch Massey. She Married Dwite Debnam, also of Zebulon, October 27, 1944 in Oakland California.

Gloria is survived by her husband Edward Dwite Debnam, son Edward (Ed) Dwite Debnam, Jr., two daughters Amy Elizabeth Debnam Boyd and Janet (Jan) Faye Debnam Green. She is also survived by one daughter-in-law Carol Jones Debnam, and two son-in-laws, Robert Lee Boyd and Michael E. Green, and seven grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Debnam Dowens and her husband Robert William Dowens, Sr., Matthew Edward Debnam, Taylor Yates Debnam, Samatha Carol Debnam, Marcus Lofton Sledge and his wife Anna Marie Sledge, Lindsey Victoria Green, and Alan Michael Green. Gloria also has two great grandchildren Robert William Dowens, Jr. and Bryant Dwite Dowens. She also has a great granddaughter Sledge that is due to be born in November. Gloria Debnam is survived by her brother Oren Daniel Massey, Jr. of Zebulon, NC and her sister Iris Howard of Lexington, Mass., as well as her cousins, nieces, and nephews from her large and loving family.

Gloria started dating Dwite Debnam at the age of 14. They married in 1944 after Dwite returned from WWII, and have been married 66 years and 9 months. They raised their children in Rockingham, NC, where Dwite was the Superintendent of the J.P. Stevens textile plants. They attended The First Baptist Church where Gloria was active with the church youth. Gloria was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, garden, and care for her family. Gloria and Dwite have lived in Staunton, VA for the past 33years. He was the plant manager of the Goshen Stillwater Plant. Gloria volunteered for various community events such as the Blood Mobil Drive. She loved Staunton and the surrounding communities.

Visitation will be held at Massey Funeral Home, 913 N. Arendell Avenue, Zebulon NC, Thursday evening, July 28th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday Morning July 29th at 11:00 a.m., at The Massey Chapel, Massey Funeral Home 913 N. Arendell Avenue, Zebulon, NC followed by a graveside service at the Massey Family Cemetery.
