ZEBULON - The Murphy USA convenience store located at 801 E. Gannon Ave. was robbed at gunpoint around 1:20 a.m. this morning.
Zebulon Police say a man entered the store armed with a small silver handgun and demanded money from the gas station clerk. Zebulon police Chief Tim Hayworth said it is still undetermined how much money was taken since it was early in the morning and a store audit has yet to be completed, but said he thinks it was a relatively small amount of register cash.
No shots were fired and no injuries reported in the robbery, and there were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot toward Walmart.
The suspect was said to be slim, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall between the ages of 17 and 22. He was wearing a dark t-shirt and blue jeans with white designs on the back pockets. He was wearing black or dark blue and white Nike tennis shoes, a black knit hat and a blue bandana.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery can reach Zebulon Police Department Det. Ashley Dixon at 823-1818 or Eastern Wake Crimestoppers at 919-366-CRIM (2746).
