EASTERN WAKE - Several census questionnaire assistance centers have been set up around eastern Wake County if you need help filling out U.S. Census forms.

The centers, in operation through April 19, will have extra forms and envelopes if you have lost yours. They also have complete forms available in Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Russian. Other language forms are not available, but the questions are written in 59 different languages, and allow a person to answer the questions on a standard form, said Paul Rezac, assistant manager for quality assurance.

Rezac said the centers also have Braille guides.

Rezac said residents can't leave their forms at the centers, but must use the provided postage paid envelope.

There are several sites set up in all three eastern Wake towns. In Knightdale at the East Regional Library, centers will be open Monday and Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. They also will be operating from the Knightdale Recreation Center: Monday, Thursday and Friday, 6-9 p.m.; Tuesday, 1-5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon.

Knightdale United Methodist Church also has a center open Monday through Friday 6 to 9 p.m.

The Wendell Community Center will host a center Monday through Friday, noon-3 p.m. and at the Eastern Wake Senior Center, Mondays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; Wednesday, noon-2 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Wendell Library is serving as a center on Monday and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.; Fridays, noon-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

In Zebulon, a center will be set up at the Eastern Regional Center Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-noon. The Zebulon Library will have a center there Monday and Tuesday, noon-3 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 4:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Census also has an assistance telephone line. The number is 866-872-6868.

Census data affects how more than $400 billion in federal funds are distributed each year. These funds help pay for such things as public education, road repair and construction, public transportation, programs for the elderly and hospitals. It also determines how many members of Congress each state is allotted..
