FAYETTEVILLE - East Wake turned the ball over 30 times too many as Seventy-First downed the Lady Warriors 96-71 in the first round of the NCHSAA 4-A state playoffs.
"We did not show up this game," Warrior coach Toni Vick said. "We made 30 turnovers and did not get enough defensive stops. We got out-rebounded and we did not play our game."
East (10-16) fell behind 51-29 by the halfway point of the high-scoring game, then played even with Seventy-First in the second half.
"Second half, the girls really picked it up and tried very hard to stay in the game. They did not give up and played until the buzzer," Vick said.
Jazmine Gray led the Lady Warriors with 23 points, followed by Tianna Knuckles with 18.
Vick said her team really had a good year and improved over the course of the season.
"I am very proud of my girls to make it to the playoffs my first year as varsity coach. I am looking forward to greater things for us next year."
