ZEBULON — A 20-year-old Rolesville man died in a car accident that took place on N.C. 96 near Hopkins Chapel Road early Tuesday morning.

According to a report from the N.C. Highway Patrol, Jesus Tolentino Antonio was traveling north and speeding at 85 mph on the 55 mph highway just outside Zebulon around 2:30 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle.

The vehicle, a 2006 Volkswagen, ran off the left side of the road and traveled through a wooden fence before striking a pine tree where the vehicle came to rest.

“Recklessness was the cause, and alcohol can not be confirmed,” Highway Patrol spokesperson Dave Major said Tuesday. “Alcohol is listed as unknown, and is not expected.”

The condition of the road was said to be dry and no other cars were involved in the accident. There were no passengers in the vehicle, according to the report.
