Doug Boyd team wins Knightdale golf tourney

Doug Boyd Enterprises, LLC wrote the book on winning the Knightdale Chamber of Commerce golf tournament last week by posting a superball best 20-under-par 52. With four represented rosters among the field, the crew, including Doug Boyd, Matt Fitzgerald, Garrick West and Quinn McLaney.

Second Place belonged to Michael Blake, Mike Duncan, John Murray, Darrel Freed of Michael Blake’s Garden Center & Gift Shop’s 57, with third going to Mike Anders, Jule McDowell, Robbie Underhill & Chris Buffaloe of A & B Carpets, also at 57.

The event unfolded under overcast conditions for the initial 14 holes or so, but turned toward survivor mode when the rain clouds emptied a steady drizzle the remainder of the day at River Ridge Golf Club.

Among the individual accomplishments, Summer Phinney of Rex Healthcare teed off with the top ladies’ drive, Gary Rudd of Rudino’s for the men’s long drive, Robert Botley of Paul’s Barber Shop, David Carver of East Wake Reconstruction, LLC, and Yates Perry of Farm Bureau of Knightdale stapled an approach closest to the pin on holes 17, 15, and 2. A strong 34 teams participated in the 15th annual tournament.
