KNIGHTDALE - An assisted living facility with a wing for Alzheimer's care could be coming to Knightdale.
The Knightdale Town Council held a public hearing last week on a proposal by Carillon Assisted Living of Raleigh to build a 96-bed facility on 15.89 acres on Hodge Road at Kemp Drive.
The facility will be a 41,730-square-foot building with a sunroom, parlor, wellness center, media room, activity rooms, kitchens, living rooms, dining room and private rooms for residents.
Carillon Assisted Living has 11 facilities in North Carolina that are designed as much like home as possible, said Janet Ray, Carillon Assisted Living operations resource coordinator.
"It's a family environment," she said. "We have sitting rooms, a private dining room and kitchens where residents can cook with their families if they choose. We try to give them as much privacy as they like."
Ray said Carillon provides private rooms for residents and use of their facilities in the building.
Plans for the facility call for a concrete walking trial within the outdoor leisure space and an outdoor patio with seating. The facility, which will have screened porches, will be fenced.
In order to build the senior care center, Carillion has to obtain a special use permit.
Bob Stensen, of Carillion Assisted Living, said the company would like credit from the town for the required roadway improvements against development fees. The council held open the public hearing and referred the proposal to the Nov. 9 Land Use Review Board meeting.
