A new rush-hour express bus for eastern Wake County made its first run last week, connecting Zebulon and Wendell with WakeMed and downtown Raleigh.
Triangle Transit says the Zebulon/Wendell-Raleigh Express will run weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m.
Morning buses will leave a Zebulon park-and-ride lot (Compare Foods, 410 W. Gannon Ave.) at 5:55, 6:55 and 7:55 a.m.
The buses will arrive an hour later at the Moore Square Transit Center in downtown Raleigh.
Along the way the buses will stop at a Wendell park-and-ride lot (East Fourth Street at Oakwood Avenue), in East Raleigh at WakeMed and Wake County Human Services.
There will also be four stops in the state government complex downtown.
Three afternoon buses will make the return trip, leaving Moore Square at 4:10, 5:10 and 6:10 p.m.
In addition, three morning buses will make the trip east from Raleigh, leaving Moore Square at 5, 6 and 7 a.m.
Two afternoon buses will depart Zebulon for Raleigh at 5:05 and 6:05 p.m.
Triangle Transit is sponsoring the new service using Capital Area Transit buses, with help from Raleigh and the towns of Zebulon and Wendell.
The ride will be free for the first five weeks, and then riders will start paying Dec. 1.
A trip costs $2.50 each way, with discount fares and passes available.
Many government and private employers provide free or discounted transit passes to employees.
