KNIGHTDALE - Kalyn Johnson and Carly Mounts each booted two goals and Wendell Middle enjoyed its most productive offensive showing of the season in a 6-1 win over winless East Wake Middle Thursday afternoon.

The game started with a bang as both teams scored in the first three minutes. But Wendell's defense tightened up behind the hustling play of sweeper Anna Capps to give its offense some room to work.

Johnson opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game with a blast into the right side of the net.

But East Wake responded quickly. From 10 yards out, Morgan Wiggs lofted a gorgeous shot into the top of the net over the outstretched hands of Wolves keeper Jasmine McAbee to knot the score at 1 just three minutes into the contest.

Wendell's next goal was credited to Cheri Agner she took a ball on a corner kick and bounced it into the goal off an East Wake defender at the 11-minute mark.

Wendell pounced on the miscue and scored two minutes later on a blistering shot at close range from Mounts who ran down the right hand side of the field and got in front of her defender to get a clean shot at the goal.

Sheyanne Tant closed the first half scoring for Wendell with her first goal of the season to give Wendell a 4-1 halftime lead.

Mounts and Johnson each scratched out their second goals of the game in the second half to close the scoring for Wendell, which moves to 3-1 on the season.

Coach Kristen Hasbrouck said her squad is taking to heart the things they've worked on practice.

"We've been practicing crossing, passing and communicating with each other about who's open and it all worked," Hasbrouck said.
