ZEBULON Mettie Denton Creech, 72, of 501 Worth Hinton Road, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at UNC Hospitals.
A native of Durham County, she was the daughter of the late Etta Pearl Ferrell and Eli Winston Denton. She was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church where she served as church clerk, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was retired from Westinghouse/ABB after 45 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin D. Creech; two sons, Durward Creech and his wife Kathy of Franklinton and Derek Creech of the home; four sisters, Dorothy Cone and JoAnne Mitchell both of Middlesex, Mae Winstead of Elm City and Carolyn Perry of Zebulon; two brothers, J.R. Denton and Danny Denton both of Middlesex; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Union Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or to Union Chapel Baptist Church.
Strickland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
