Before the next edition of this newspaper hits your driveway, we will have chosen new members of the Board of Education.
It remains to be seen if their efforts will pay off in terms of new faces on the school board.
But it has been successful in one regard. Everyone is waiting to see what will happen.
Never have the issues in an election been so starkly outlined or reduced to simple catch phrases.
Regardless of how you vote, we are shouting from the mountaintop in an effort to get you to go to the polls if you are eligible voter.
Don't fail to heed your responsibility as a member of society. Don't assume that, because your kids are grown and out of school that school board elections don't affect you. They do.
Today's students will be tomorrow's employees. They will be the people taking care of you at the hospital or in a nursing home. They are the people who will be teaching your grandchildren or collecting your garbage every week.
You want them to get a good education. It's in your best interest.
And so, too, it's in your best interest to take part in next Tuesday's election. Your vote will be an important one.
In eastern Wake County, we are sure to have new representation on the school board because incumbent Lori Millberg chose not to seek another term.
It's up to you to decide who will take her place.
Don't abdicate that responsibility.
