Zebulon — Some wins are more important than others.

I had the craziest weekend. I'd call it more of an emotional rollercoaster, and for any of you who saw the highlights or the actual game, Tennessee went around the world and back before defeating Kentucky in four overtimes.

I almost had to leave the game early on a Tums run, but managed to control the fire.

Not only would it have been the first time in more than 20 years the Wildcats would have won, it would have meant absolutely nothing for the Kentucky squad. As for the Volunteers, not only would it have kicked them out of the line to play LSU in the SEC championship game, it would have sent Georgia there in their place.

Who could sleep at night with a thought like that floating through their head? I know there are Georgia fans out there despising these comments (and my column, in general), but it really comes down to one simple question. What were you thinking? Who, in this universe, would depend on Kentucky's football team to close out their season, especially over the Vols? If you are a Georgia fan, you should know better than to leave yourself in a position where the fate is in the hands of the Wildcats and we aren't talking about Rupp Arena. Enough said.

This is not a hasty comment, this is my pre-dispute Georgia fan comment; hope your Dogs win enough early-on next year, and I'm sure they'll do better with control of their own destiny.

On a lighter note, I enjoyed the company of Volunteers and Wildcats alike, and in a very cosmopolitan setting. It was a night of fine-dining and ball-room dancing, believe me.

I'll leave this thought behind with one more. LSU has only lost twice, once to Arkansas and once to Kentucky. Tennessee beat both of these teams, and I'm not going to be "that guy", who tries to read wins and losses and take them to heart, but I will say this proves anything can happen in the SEC, and the championship game will no doubt be one to check out.

College football championships are still on the menu, so try not to let these spoil your taste for weekday games at the high school level.

Men and women's basketball and swimming and diving meets are under way, as well as wrestling at both Knightdale and East Wake.

With the passing of Thanksgiving, high schools are getting into the bulk of the regular season. Don't let the weather fool you. These winter events are indoors and heated for your viewing pleasure.
