Zebulon — The end of the sporting season is near for many high school athletes.
Of course this only brings on a new season. Basketball will be the focal point for many gatherings in the near future. At the same time there is still collegiate and professional football. My fantasy team is terrible this season. I was actually last from the bottom at 2-4 until this week. Then I beat my older brother who happens to be the undefeated, hot-shot poster boy for arrogance at what was a 6-0 record. It must be frustrating to sit on top of the mountain and watch it crumbling below. This, however, is not nearly as painful as starting low and struggling to move forward. East Wake’s homecoming game was bittersweet to say the least. The defense looked as sharp as
it ever had all season and the offense didn’t set any records, but put a sizeable amount of points on the board. If you would’ve asked me, I would’ve said it was in the books, but then again, that’s why I don’t bet. Knightdale can regroup for next week if they so choose to do so. Clayton is an up-coming team, yes, but the Warriors, despite late-game advances from the Comets, held the team in contention. Yes, that’s what I’m saying. East Wake and Knightdale could both be 2-8, 2-4, going in the final week of the season — the week of their game. It’s just a thought, but no matter what happens this weekend, the standing of the two teams in the Knightdale-Wendell border rivalry will likely produce a better football game.
